Whenever I play any video on vlc 0.8.6a, artefacts appear on any jpeg picture. It's visible on pictures with large areas of black colour.

Video is presented using the overlay of your video card through DirectX (default v-out). Any interference to desktop images would be an issue of your video card and or drivers.
