VLC LINUX no sound on dvd movies

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

VLC LINUX no sound on dvd movies

Hey im wondering if anyone is having the same issue as i am. When I play a dvd and i change video to use X11 it plays the video great but i do not get audio i have tried changeing the default audio output but to no avail. Any help would be great thanx.

Do you have the faad library installed to decode DVD audio?

Euuh, I guess you meant liba52 for a52/ac3 audio and libmad for mpeg audio ;)

Also make sure your DVD doesn't use DTS audio as this codec is not handled by VLC.

Damn what the hell good is a client that plays dvd's without audio, all dvd are encoded with DTS.
and faad does not compile right and as far as i can find out the damn package is not even stable this may be why its not working. OHH well ill just get mplayer working with my dvds it seams to be able to play the auido on the dvd's but not the video correctly

mplayer uses the same stuff as we do :)

and as gibalou said. liba52 and libmad for playing DVD's not libfaad as I suggested.
