problems w/16x9 aspect ratio?

just got me a new dvd+/-r/rw burner for my linux box(fedora rc1) and tried to view a dvd w/vlc0.6.2. tried to view the disc directly, but got these errors:

so i tried viewing individual files. the fbi/intro vob(in normal 4X3 aspect) plays fine, but any of the 16x9(widescreen) files SEGV:-(

i had extracted the entire dvd using xcdroast to create an iso, and vlc plays it fine until the aspect ratio changes:

Make sure you have write access rights for your DVD device (/dev/dvd ?).
Libdvdcss needs that in order to send commands to the DVD drive to decrypt the content.

ok, so i ran as root;-) it loaded the disc, played the 4:3 fbi/intro, reached the menu, i clicked on play, segv:-(

so i tried w/o menu support, the intro started (no fbi warning;-) in 16:9, then:
