commercial dvd playback is not smooth

hi
i'm new to this so forgive my ignorance....i am running a lacie dvd player via firewire connection through a pcmcia card to my bronze keyboard mac powerbook G3. cpu 333mhz but am getting the movie yet the picture is very stop and start.....it isn't smooth at all.
can anyone help me with adjustments or suggestions

Do you have other DVD playing software that works with this set up? Usually this problem is caused by DMA not being enabled. I do not see how this set up could utilize DMA though.

It might be possible that your processor is not fast enough to decode a DVD at real time. I'm able to play DVDs with a powerbook-bronze keyboard with a 500MHz-cpu but even this does stagnate from time to time.

Are you able to play your DVD with the DVD-player-software (simply called "DVD-Player" in your /Applications-folder) which is delivered withhin your system? This application does use some extra co-processors for better playing if available, which are not accessable by us, so might be the better choice for your computer, although it does not accept DVDs from all regions.

A G3 333 Mhz is too slow for DVD decoding with VLC.
Don't use PMs for support questions.
