No fullscren or resizeble video? [XP, Radeon 9800]

Postby naugas » 23 Apr 2004 12:48

Hi!

I can't change the videosize or go fullscreen with vlc. Now using version 0.7.1. The window changes size when I drag the borders, but the video always stays at 1x. Choosing fullscreen in the video menu - nothing happens. Doubleclicking the window - nothing.

using Windows XP, a Radeon 9800pro and (the latest) catalyst drivers from 040322. The version of the driver is reported as 6.14.10.6436, and my card's bios as BK-ATI VER008.015.058.000.

This behavior was the same with the drivers that came with Windows.
And I have tried reinstalling... :) I also tried the previous version of vlc (6.2 I think it was?)

Any ideas, someone?

No fullscren or resizeble video? [XP, Radeon 9800]

Postby mgarrett » 31 Jan 2005 20:17

I have an IBM R50 laptop with an ATI Radion 7500 chipset. I am using VLC 0.8.1 (wxWindows Interface).

I have the same symptoms that were described above. If I change video|fullscreen to on, there is no effect. If I resize the window, the window resizes, but the video itself remains the same size with black bars around it (assuming that I am making the window bigger).

I saw another post that made me try changing skins. I tried skins2, but that didn't help.

I have a replaytv, and since the VLC viewer has the best support for both playing both streaming video, and downloaded mpg video from the replay, I will continue to try new software and hope that it is someday fixed.

If someone can fix this problem, or suggest a workaround, I would be very gratefull. Until then, I will continue to use VLC in a small window.

Thanks for any help that can be given.

Have you tried turning hardware overlay off? This would eat more CPU, but sometimes a given graphics chip has "issues"

(Settings -- Preferences -- General -- Video. Click "Advanced options" -- make sure the checkbox talking about HW overlay is off, then Save, exit VLC, restart)

Thank you so much. I hadn't ever seen that advanced video setting screen before. The hardware overlay setting didn't fix the problem. I did turn it off, and retest, but the same symptoms happened.

The fix was to change:

settings | preferences | advanced options | video output module

The one that was selected by default, and giving me trouble was the "windows gdi video output".

Both "directx" and "opengl" settings for video output module fixed my problem, but "directx" resulted in less cpu usage!

Again, thanks a ton for the help. I have been downloading every new version of VLC to try to fix this problem for about a year. It is my own fault for not posting a question earlier. Hopefully someone can read this post and benefit.
