No audio while using VLC for some streams.

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Hi,

We streaming sat channels using VLS in our network.

All looks good, but for 2 channels we have no sound when opening them with VLC. Can someone help to solve this problem.

ts debug: * es pid=55 type=6 dr->i_tag=0x52
ts debug: * Stream Component Identifier: 10
ts debug: * es pid=55 type=6 *unknown*
That is the cause. VLC doesn't recognise the type of stream descriped here. If there is any way you can figure out what type of audio stream it is (codec/packetization), then it can probably easily be supported.

Hi,

i have made some work here.

I take few sec of stream without sound in vlc and using dump raw input drop it to file. You can get it there (5.69MB): demo.mpg

then i open it using Mindows Media Player: i got video and sound...

Using GSpot rendering i got this information about video and audio codecs which was used to play this file:

Mmm, perhaps that wasn't the problem after all.

Seems that this stream has an incorrect PTS or PCR in one of it's substreams. Therefore the timing information is incorrect and VLC doesn't know 'when' to play the audio. This is a common problem in mpeg files, often masked by players that simply (and incorrectly) ignore mpeg timestamping.

Im using VLC to stream my tv tuner so i can watch it on the go...

I have video but no sound. I selected my audio device i.e my sound card but when i go to configure and pick "Line in" as the source of the audio input it the apply button is faded and will not let me apply.

Am i doing something wrong ? I tried upgrading my audio drivers that did nothing. Do i need some codec? Everything plays fine aside from the no audio when streaming.

I have the same problem with some multicast streams which have MPEG audio that doesn't play in VLC. Is there a way to force some kind of 'quirks mode' for the audio codec to be able to listen to it anyway? Surely this would be a preferrable solution rather than pedantically following standards and not getting any audio at all for erroneous streams.
