There is small problem with subtitles. Apparently it skips some lines of subtitle file.Until now I used vlc-0.8.5-svn-20060305-1518-win32 and everything was working well.
Which subtitles and what do the Messages say ????
Please people. provide some info with your bug reports.
I keep asking for the same information, would save everyone a lot of time if I didn't have to do that.

Subtitles are in .srt format

Manualy setting encoding from Default to CP1250 solves the problem, but the earlyer versions didn't have such problem.

Wonderful!
The new OSX interface is great.
And thanks for the aspect ratio shortcut :)

Another problem with subtitles is apparently here since I started to use VLC on Windows (that was version 0.7.2 if I remember correctly). Problem is with MicroDVD subtitles and movies with 23.9760 FPS. From some reason it looks like that player shows subtitles like it is 25 FPS movie, what causes that subtitles show more and more out of sync (they show before they should). Manually forcing subtitles to 23.9760 fps doesn't help , because then they then show after they should. Subtitles are ok (at least I think) because other players don't have such problem. Simply converting them from MicroDVD to SubRip format solves the problem.

Here is one message output:

Hmm indeed. any nsis guru in the room ?
There it is enough to replace the line 23 of script NSIS by that:

Code: Select all

InstallDirRegKey HKLM "${PRODUCT_DIR_REGKEY}" ""

Code: Select all

Try manually setting a character-encoding before you open the file. subsdec error: failed to convert subtitle encoding. Try manually setting a character-encoding before you open the file.
Manualy setting encoding from Default to CP1250 solves the problem, but the earlyer versions didn't have such problem.
Could you try with the new win32 nightly? I hope to have fixed it, but i'm not 100% sure.

VLC isn't a frame accurate player, and as such microdvd isn't really a suited subtitle format. You need to be DEAD on when you set the fps, or desynchronization will occur after a couple of minutes.

I found the cause!
plugins\libportaudio_plugin.dll dated Dec 12 2005 is left over from an earlier version. If I delete this, it loads.

The problem is in the client when you play

Hi forum people ;)!

0.8.4 often crashes with Memory Access Errors or with

*** glibc detected *** malloc(): memory corruption:

I could not fix these errors so I try this beta and yeah it works fine for me :)

I only get "a few" errors:

no sound available on vlc test 2 on imac intel based. no sound from mp4, avi, mov files. the same files sound godd with quicktime
I don't think this is intel specific. On my PPC(G3), MP4a audio doesn't work either, only tested on;

.MKV containers
Codec - mp4a - 2 Channel, 48000 Hz
Muxing application - libebml v0.7.1 + libmatroska
Writing application - mkvmerge v0.9.5('The Na Na

Also I get no sound or video while trying to play some .iso's(atleast the ones I tired.). One however I get the DVD menu part, black video and I can't do anything. Codec is mpgv. I dunno if someone has already mentioned the above but just thought I would let you know. Oh and by the way the .iso's worked in 0.84a. I am currently using 0.85(april 2 build, the one linked here). I am on Mac OSX 10.4.6.

One other problem I am having is with subtitles. The SSA types are all messed up. What I mean by that is they are small, seem to blend in with the video, blurr and are unreadable at times. I have tried adjusting the size, font, encoding non worked. The only thing I got to work was color change. I did this through loading subtitles(open file) and also in the preferences window with no avail of changing them. I took some quick screen shots to give you an idea what I am talking about;

0.84a
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/3417/084a7gr.jpg
The text is a bit big can't change anything on it and it seems at sometimes a few words go off screen.

0.85 Beta-Test 2(april 2 build, the one linked here)
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/7797/beta25zs.jpg
Now all the text is on the screen but it blends too much in with the movie it is unreadable sometimes.

Well these are just a few problems I have come acrossed. Oh and 0.84a compared to 0.85beta-2 is so much faster. 0.84 is super choppy while watching any high quality Xvid, Divx, MPEG1-4, AVI, MKV, VOB, ect however 0.85beta-2 plays almost anything I throw at it nice and smooth and I am on a G3 500mhz, 1gb ram old ass mac. Thanks for this great program! If you need anymore in sight on any of the problems, I will keep checking back to help out.

test2 is not optimized so that problems can be traced more quickly.
About subtitles. Well this is SSA. I implemented formatting for SSA, but unfortunately it seems many SSA subtitles are not actually for the resolution of the movie that they come with. So i then need to do some sort of "scaling" which VERY badly influences the subtitle quality. You can however disable "formatting" alltogether, by going into the "subsdec" section of the prefs.

You need to select the msn plugin in the control interfaces list in the preferences.

aspect-ratio

Postby aspect » 05 Apr 2006 20:54

I couldn't find a better location to summit a bug report. Sorry if this is not the right place.

I just downloaded 0.8.5 test 2 and with some VOB files it does not detect 16:9 aspect-ratio correctly and when I try to manually switch to 16:9 the aspect-ratio does not change.
If I select 16:10 it will change aspect-ratio. However, this is not the correct aspect-ratio.

With the version 0.8.4 when I open the same file it does not detect the correct aspect-ratio either. However, when I manually switch to 16:9 it works correctly.

Cannot play flv files anymore.
Subtitles is still running out of sync or not displayed (sometimes shows and then it wont again).
HD decoding needs little speedup too (not sure but mplayer plays ts faster)
