Video-window goes blank whenever moved or trying to go fulls

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

okay i've made a test again... and i realized that these strange stripes are the first vertical line of the video-screen.

starting a video in fullscreen is okay. exit fullscreen and switch back to it doesn't work -> stripes.

Message log from vlc-0.7.2-cvs-20040309-win32.zip

Here's what I did:
1. Started VLC.
2. Clicked View -> Messages.
3. Clicked File -> Open File -> Browse.
4. Selected the file and clicked OK.
5. Let the movie start. I could see it in the window. The messages stopped at line 187: main warning: late picture skipped (29072).
6. Moved the window the movie was playing in and let the sound play another couple of seconds. The screen was black once I moved the window the movie was playing in.
7. Stopped the movie and saved the messages.

Here's the text from the messages log:

i hope you havent forgot about this
I did not forget but I'm lacking time right now.

Anyway, people have been reporting that the problem started around the 0.7.0 release but 0.7.0-test1 was still fine so I uploaded a development version of VLC with the directx video output reverted to the one in 0.7.0-test1. You can find it here: http://download.videolan.org/pub/testin ... -win32.zip

Can anybody check this is indeed working ?

Can also anybody check if VLC 0.7.0-test2 is working ?

Version 0.7.2 (20040319) with directx output from 0.7.0-test1 works for me...

Version 0.7.0 (test2) doesn't work (stripes).

Thanks for your effort.

version 0.7.2 works for me as well, tough the resolution is not too good, kind of lots of blocks....
i got a notebook with an amd 2500+ and a s3 graphic adapter running with win xp he

anyway great project i appriciate your effort very much!!!!!

Guest

Postby Guest » 24 Mar 2004 17:43

i don't know if this is a specific problem of the 0.7.2 special version supplied above but i can't activate the "always on top" feature permanently, tough it should be possible in advanced options. (or did i missunderstand that completely?)

spez.:
win xp he
amd
s3
anything important i forgot?

thank you.

Can you try to overwrite the directx vout plugin in the above build with: http://download.videolan.org/pub/testin ... plugin.dll

Does it make any difference ?

Ah finally we are getting somewhere :)

I have isolated the change that created the problem but I don't really see why it is creating a problem with S3 hardware and how to fix this in a way that won't break multi-monitor support :(

I replaced http://download.videolan.org/pub/testin ... plugin.dll with a new version that might (or might not) work. Can you try it out ?

Postby Supernaut » 03 Apr 2004 16:21

Same as others here, I have no problems with the 0.7.2-CVS build, but 0.7.1 gives me hell. Here are my complete system specs.

Shuttle SK41G XPC barebone computer with:
Motherboard chipsets : North bridge-VIA KM266, South bridge-VIA 8235
Processor: AMD Duron XP 1.2Ghz
Memory: 256Mb DDR266Mhz Kingston
Onboard graphics: S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional

solus

Postby solus » 02 May 2004 06:45

i have exactly the same problem, and i cannot go fullscreen or even shift the screen.

my specs are mostly the same as well
AMD XP 1700 with a s3 prosavage ddr

only version 6.1 works for me when i try to go fullscreen.
