Sound problem wisth ESD

Postby xhak » 21 Mar 2004 22:23

Hello

i have a debian sarge with 2.4.24 kernel and sound with ALSA and ESD

i can play MP3s using XMMS using the eSound plugin ( libesdout.so ) so i guess my sound works

but when i play a video file, i have the video (sometimes :) ), but in the command line it tells me
aout error: can't open audio device (/dev/dsp)
module error: requested audio output module `dsp' unavailable
aout error: no suitable aout module
adec error: failed to create aout fifo
in the options i selected esd, i also tried dsp, but both don't work :(

how can i configure my sound ( esd ? vlc ? alsa ? anything else ? ) to have some sound... because at the moment i just can play MP3s with XMMS ( how does he manage to get sound !!! ), and no other application play sounds ( gnome, mozilla... )

Thanks !

If you compiled vlc with esd support everything should work fine. But first upgrade your vlc, 0.3.1 is a really really old version !

VLC is taking it's time getting into sarge. Too many dependencies.
