This has happened at least twice now in a couple years. I record shows off OTA channels using an HDHomeRun (roughly 1 a day for at least the past year). Given it's a somewhat rare occurrence, I'm not too worried about preventing it, but rather how to get a particular video to play. Here's what happens:
I start watching a recorded video. At some point, I pause it for awhile, then eventually quit VLC. The next day, I open the same file. Normally, it resumes playing where I left off. But at least twice now, I've encountered a problem where the browser window shows that it's playing, but there's no video and no sound. If I try opening the video in another application, there is video but no sound, but...
While I was composing this post, VLC was trying to play the video from the beginning and all of a sudden, it started working (after having been trying to play for a couple minutes).
I'm guessing that maybe the file was somewhat damaged when VLC tried to save the place where I left off yesterday? That's the only reason I can figure why it wouldn't play in other software.
If this happens in the future, how can I get it to resume playing?
I tried disabling and re-enabling the audio track. Interestingly, the audio track was sent to Spanish, even though the show was recorded via over the air. I could be wrong, but I don't think that they broadcast in Spanish on some other wavelength or something. The video menu was completely grayed out.
