How to ignore/disable (thumbnail) images?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

How to ignore/disable (thumbnail) images?

Postby aitte » 03 Apr 2012 15:15

I use a moviethumbnailer (mtn) batch file to create thumbnail mosaics and text files with the codec/cast info for video files, and usually use VLC by dragging multiple files or folders into the playlist, but while VLC will ignore the .txt files, I want VLC to ignore image files too but it seems depending on the version of VLC, sometimes it will ignore images and play the next video, and sometimes will open images. i.e the behavior seems to change depending on the last update.

This has bugged me for years, and I seem to be at the mercy of the updates as I can never find anything resembling this in the preferences. Is there actually an option or config file operator I can use to have VLC skip images in a folder or file selection, or completely disable jpg support? (I have checked the file associations.)

I think you can define what files should be ignored when opening a folder.

I usually just drag folders directly into VLC, but using 'open folder' has no file type options anyway, and using 'open folder'I would just Ctrl+click the files I wanted to play.

Here are the precise steps to hide the background cone or art:
Tools > Preferences > Interface > Show settings > All > Interface > Main interfaces > Qt > untick Display background cone or art, then Save, then restart VLC.
