New user not sure where to ask about drive selections

Hi

I have been a sometime user of VLC to just check a few audio files on and off. I now find I have transferred all of my music tracks to an external USB drive which I was going to select in VLC as the source to set up playlists, but how do I find the tracks as when selecting the drive as a media source the MP3 files do not show.
