I wonder how VLC works when casting a local file to Chromecast: does it decode the file itself or does the Chromecast device do encoding? I am wondering about this because I have mixed results in casting the same file by different players. For example, if I have a very large Opus encoded Ogg file, it takes ages to seek to a far position (say several hours) in the file by another player, but it works promptly by VLC. I have been told that seeking an Ogg file can be slow due to the container properties. (On the other hand, if I put the same Opus content in MP4 container, VLC can not play at all, but that issue has been reported in another thread years ago
