Remove Audio but not telemetry

Postby mische7 » 12 May 2023 19:31

Hi all - I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I have several files (.mp4s) that have telemetry embedded. However, they also have useless and terrible audio that I've been asked to remove. I'm successfully removing the audio and had hoped everything else was left alone, but it seems the telemetry is being stripped too. Does anyone know what I'm missing in this process?

Here's my method:
Media > Convert/Save then selecting the video.
Choosing the profile Video - H264 + MP3(mp4) then selecting the wrench icon directly to the right of this dropdown
On that window, going to the video codec tab, I'm selecting 'use original video'
on the audio tab deselecting audio

The conversion takes no time at all, just a flash really, and the audio is gone. But I'm definitely missing something since the spatial data is too. I'd greatly appreciate any help.

I'm not sure VLC can deal with extra information during the conversion, at least through the GUI.
You should upload a short sample of your original problematic file to WeTransfer.com or Disroot.org and then post the link to the file here.

Great - thanks for the advice. I've uploaded a one minute file created with a GoPro 8. I'd be so grateful for any tips on how to make the happen. I'd really hoped that 'use original video' would simply target the audio track only.

Here's the file:

Through the GUI, VLC only supports video, audio and subtitles streams. Your file has some extra streams:

Code: Select all

Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Audio ID : 2 Format : AAC LC Other #1 ID : 3 Type : Time code Format : QuickTime TC Time code of first frame : 14:26:38:44 Time code of last frame : 14:27:06:08 Time code, stripped : Yes Title : GoPro TCD Other #2 Type : meta Duration : 26 s 992 ms Bit rate mode : Variable Duration_LastFrame : -35 Other #3 Type : meta Bit rate mode : Variable mdhd_Duration : 26977

Even FFmpeg can't copy the meta streams (Other #2 and #3) and only the time code is copied.
But there are tools to extract and to inject telemetry from and into files so maybe that's the way to go since I'm afraid VLC can't do it.

Thanks for the response and (clearly) really looking into it. Bummer! I'd hoped there was just some setting I was missing. But thank you, again, for checking!
