With latest youtube version, we'd need javascript evaluation to get the URL from youtube in a reliable way. The current lua version is basically trying to fetch the source from youtube and parse them to extract the URL, which is not enough now.

As far as I know, nobody plans to resolve this.

You can still play YouTube URLs either by starting VLC from YT-DLP, or by installing the unofficial backport of the VLC YTDL plugin.

Or, well, play directly in the browser.

As far as I know, nobody plans to resolve this.

Really? is that sometimes I like to watch Youtube videos in VLC and if it is not fixed, this ability of VLC to watch Youtube videos will have to be removed unfortunately

I did everything right and tested it but it still gave a problem, did i do something wrong? Is there a tutorial for this Lua script?

Maybe the VLC team should have a look at parsing the Youtube videos from one of the Invidious instances like yewtu.be, for instance.

That's written in a fringe programming language that probably none of the VLC developers know so not terribly useful.

I made sure VLC was updated its on 3.0 18, it is
I reinstalled it several times, nothing.
I even replaced the youtube.luac file with a current one from github, nothing!
Ive tried every possible troubleshooting i could find on the internet for this problem and nothing has changed.
Either Youtube screwed VLC, or we havent gotten an updated luac file or update yet.
So i guess we screwed still.
