General settings assistance for conversion/orientation

Postby denis2k » 22 Sep 2022 18:10

Hello - apologies but I'm new to the tool and not very conversant in video formats/codecs.

I've got a 1.3 GB MOV video that I'm trying to just compress to about half its size (ideally ~500 MB). But keep audio and video, and I can then assess quality and see if it's OK.

2 issues:
-- SIZE: I can't seem to get configuration settings right. No matter what I try, after the compression runs it is the same size.
-- AUDIO AND ORIENTATION: When I play the original MOV file via any player I have (Windows media player, etc), it plays fine. But after the compression runs, the file has no audio and is also flipped 90 degrees counter-clockwise. And I've tried using the rotate setting, etc, but to no avail.

Any help on what settings I can use (screen by screen) to hopefully get a file that: is smaller, has audio, and is proper orientation?

Many thanks.

About conversion:

About orientation, that's actually a good question. I don't know how to set the rotation tag during conversion, if possible with VLC.
Maybe it's possible via command line ? Let's hope a dev will answer.
