No Audio after Video Conversion

Thanks for the Tip with the Verbose Messaging.

I managed to get my first video converted with sound after googling some of the error messages. It seemed that all I needed to do is uncheck the "keep original audio track" option in the sound settings. That way VLC converts the sound instead of trying to embed the the original.

Cool, thanks a lot for your help.
I was having the same problem but the fix for me was to check the box to "keep original audio track" option...so that was a great help to me to try that option.

"keep original audio track" = "copy audio track" without any conversion. Just make sure the selected destination encapsulation/container (mp4, mkv, avi, ...) likes the original source format.

i figured it out if anyone is still interested. When using the mp4 option i clicked the audio codec and chose the MPEG 4 audio (AAC) option instead of the default mpeg audio and changed the sample rate to 48000. Hope this helps!
Thanks Brendoe - I was having the same problem - no sound. Your suggestion fixed it. Thanks for posting.

I'm new at this. I have the same problem of converting a DVD on VLC and not hearing audio when playing the file back on Windows Media Player.
I see that I need to change the sample rate to 48,000, etc. but haven't figured out how to do that. Do i do that on VLC before I convert to a file or on WMP to hear the audio on playback?
I also haven't figured out where exactly to change the sample rate. I haven't found the menu to do that on either VLC or WMP. I hope someone can explain the steps to me.
I'm much appreciative. I'm glad I found this forum.
Thanks.

You can edit a transcoding profile you use (the wrench button).

I had a similar problem when I tried to convert a YouTube video.

I typically use the MP4 container profile "Video H.264 + MP3". Extracting the codec and converting, the same thing happened. No sound!

Trying again I used the MP4 container profile, "Video for MPEG4 1080p TV/Device" and was successful.

Looking at the profile details, I cannot see any differences between the containers however. I am using version 3.0.11

I hope this helps.

Hello

I'm having this same problem. I have .mp4 files edited from my phone, I'm trying to scale for DVD.

The video transfers fine, but I always lose audio track, unless I choose MPEG Audio at 128 kb/s, which ruins the audio.

The codec in .mp4 is MPEG-4 AAC Audio (mp4a) at 44100 hz / 32 bits.

I don't now why MPEG Audio at 128 kb/s, would work, but MPEG-4 (AAC) doesn't? And why does kbps range max out at 512 even if you choose .wav? CD Audio is 1411 kbps for instance, and those .mp4 files with 44100 hz / 32 bits are 2 822 kbps. They still play fine in VLC.

Even weirder is, when I choose to "Save the original audio track", audio still disappears? It works before video conversion.

There are other reports about conversion issues:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=158673
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 89#p508489

Try with a nightly build:
https://nightlies.videolan.org

Or use a dedicated video tool such as AviDemux:

I'd really like to avoid using yet another program...

Interestingly, I tried to convert the file with another machine using the MPEG-4 (AAC) codec, and it didn't convert the audio track: Instead it kept the original audio track along with the converted video. Which would be perfect, if I can get it to work with my own machine...

Thanks, Jake. I am converting WMV files to MP4, and your trick finally did the job.

Hello guys, I just wanted to let you know if you extract a video MKV audio to convert to mp3, it will most likely be corrupted. A simple fix was to redownload vlc. In my case, I downloaded a nightly build. I hope this helps as it should :)
