convert/save results in a 0 byte file.

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

convert/save results in a 0 byte file.

Postby eddyparkinson » 21 Mar 2021 23:20

Re: 0 byte mp3 file :(
when I use convert/save I get a zero byte mp3 file. The dvd plays ok.

Using convert/save results in a file of 0 bytes .. no error message. ... on windows 10.

Re: Record button .. invalid .wav
Also - using Record button looks to produce an invalid .wav file.

I play an audio dvd. Hit the red record button. Stop recording. Open the file "vlc-record-2021-03-20-10h46m33s-Audio CD - Track 01-.wav" with VLC.
Then I get the below error. ... but the thing is, VLC is able to play the audio DVD correctly.

Unidentified codec:
VLC could not identify the audio or video codec

I was having a similar problem recently. The output file gets created, but with zero bytes. This is my current solution. After VLC is done with the conversion/streaming, close the program window or open the zero byte output file from the same VLC window (ie. not by double clicking and opening the file in another VLC window). Suddenly the file comes to size and is viewable. It looks like the process doesn't get completed until that instance of VLC is assigned another task or is closed. Am on Windows 10. VLC 3.0.12.

I do not understand "close the program window or open the zero byte output file from the same VLC window" if you have to "close the program window" how could you open the output file from the same window? That window is closed now.

Please explain me better, thanks.

This method did not work for me. I am on Ubuntu 21.10 using VLC 3.0.16. I have successfully converted from .amr to .mp3 successfully in the past 6 months. I'm not sure if it was under the same version though.

Hey, I might have a solution for this problem, when you first time load video via link and it starts playing click ctrl+j for viewing codec and copy the codec address, then when you convert the video past CODEC address NOT url, sometimes this bugs out and you gotta do it for second time but should work. I hope it help ill also post this answer to two or three different threads with same question
