How to skip back to the beginning of a currently playing audio file?

How to skip back to the beginning of a currently playing audio file?

Postby cosmolee » 01 Dec 2021 02:23

Hi, I have numerous audio files which I listen to, must guess something, and if I guess wrong, I need to skip back to the beginning of the currently playing track to hear it again. How do I do this?

All the configuration settings I see only seem to allow skipping to the next or previous track, or step partially backward or partially forward some amount (but not to the very beginning). But I can't figure out how to skip to the very beginning of the *currently* playing track. I'm seeking to have a single hotkey to pop back to the very beginning of a track (not a hotkey that I have to type repeatedly to get back to the beginning, as with the step backward hotkey).

The closest I have gotten is to type the keystroke to go to the next file, then immediately type the keystroke for the previous file. This accomplishes getting back to the beginning of the track, but as I am listening to many of these tracks over the course of a day, having to type so many extra keystrokes gets tiring.

Thanks for your help.

For a single file you can press the ▐◄◄ button. But it doesn't work for files played from a playlist and it looks like there is no hotkey for doing this.

It would be a bummer if this behavior can't be achieved. This ability is the reason I continue to use Apple's iTunes/Music player, which is the default behavior for the back button.

It seems like such a rudimentary need - I'm surprised it wouldn't have been flagged as missing functionality before, given that I could think of so many use cases where it would be needed. EG, say you wanted to learn how to pronounce all the letters in a foreign language, you could have a recording of each letter in a playlist, then play the list, hearing the sound, speak the sound, then skip back to the beginning of the track repeatedly until you've gotten the pronunciation correct. That kind of need seems like it would be very common...
