Gestures not working on touchpad/touch screen

I've never used gestures before, except for pause/play, seek forward/back and volume up/down and that was on a touch screen. I was wondering how to program it to speed up and down the playback and found this help doc. However, it seems that I can't get anything to work other than the gestures that I already stated using either the touch screen or pad.

Is this a limitation for these extended gestures? Does it work with mice?

I've also DLed the latest VLC, 3.0.16.
