Codec not supported error message

Hi all,

When attempting to play a file I get the following message:
Codec not supported:
VLC could not decode the format " " (No description for this codec)

The file name suggests it is h264 codec yet VLC does not seem to pick this up. Any suggestions?

What's the best method to share a file? It's about 1GB.
