Local CD data

Postby schofiel » 20 May 2021 21:12

Hi,

I mainly use VLC for CD and MP3 playback. Yeah, old skool :)

A minor problem, hope someone can help.

If a new CD is inserted into the drive and VLC kicks off to play it, then usually (with my settings) the track and album data is acquired and shown in the playlist, perhaps with album art.

When a CD is unrecognised, however, I've edited the metadata directly so that it's stored directly, locally. For the duration of that session with that CD, the track info stays valid.

I'm not sure:

1) where on the web CD metadata and album art is located
2) where the manually entered data is stored locally.

If I change disks, and then later try to play the original again, it's once again, unrecognised, in spite of editing the data and storing it during the previous session.

I assume the SC ID for the CD is read during insertion, and I had assumed that a local record with a matching ID had been stored for later access. However, this doesn't seem to be the case - it's lost on disk eject.

How do you correctly save manually-entered metadata for CDs, and associate them with specific disks between sessions?
