Q: Can you edit compressed media without re-compression?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Q: Can you edit compressed media without re-compression?

Just a newbie question.
Simple clipping/cutting compressed media like mp3 or mp4.
Audio or video or both.
Like it was possible "in the good old times" with qt7.
With codec / compression / format set as "passthrough"...

Audio, typically yes. Video, typically only on key frame.
