DD+ Bitstreaming <1536 SPF

Postby Krobar » 20 Nov 2020 13:00

I believe this issue is not Windows specific but could be wrong.

I have some specific issue with bitstreaming DD+ files over HDMI which have less than the normal 1536 samples per frame (SPF).

From what I understand DD+ can have 256, 512, 768 or 1536 SPF. I think IEC 61937-3 demands that smaller packets are amalgamated into one 61937 packet. So for a 256SPF DD+ stream 6 frames would be placed into one 61937 packet (Sorry if my terminology isnt right).

<1536 SPF DD+ streams were mainly used by HDDVD but have also been seen occasionally with streaming services and elsewhere (I believe Bluray stipulates 1536 SPF be used). The issue I am seeing is that 256SPF DD+ streams will not playback on my receiver. The same streams are fine when using an HDDVD player.

VLC Codec Info showing a 1:5 ratio of played to lost audio buffers for the 256 SPF audio tracks.

Can anyone help with this issue?
