"Show settings" > "All", automatically reverting back to "Simple"... Help?

I just updated vlc player. In the preferences window, I change the "show settings" option from "simple" to "all". I then make some changes, and click the save button. But, when I re-open the preferences, it has reverted back to "simple" settings.
The settings that I changed, did indeed get changed. It seems to be only the "show settings" which doesn't get saved.
It's really annoying.

Is there something I need to do, some setting, to keep on showing ALL settings?
Or is this a bug in the update?
