Open UPNP device via URL

I have a SiliconDust TV tuner on another subnet so it isn't discoverable, but I know it's URL is:
upnp://http://192.168.0.240:80/dms/ContentDirectory?ObjectID=Channels
Is there some way I cant tell VLC to open the above URL or to create a desktop shortcut to it?
If not then would this be a valid feature request? I'd rather not save a static playlist.
