Result if Snapshot Folder is Missing?

I had set a folder for VLC snapshots a while back. Today I captured a few snapshots and things worked as usual with the path displayed in the video window after the screen capture, but in the interim I had renamed a super folder of the target snapshot folder so that path/folder no longer existed. What does VLC do in that situation? I've looked around and it seems those snapshots don't exist. Does VLC just move on if it can't find the target folder?
