Washed out HDR screen capture

Postby chardetm » 08 Mar 2019 22:48

Hello all,
I'm using VLC 3.0.6 (on Windows but I assume my problem is not specific to Windows). I'm reading a 4K HDR video file, and when I take a capture from the video using the VLC screen capture feature, the colors in the image are completely washed out. I assume this has to do with HDR, I found a lot of threads about the colors being washed out when playing HDR videos in previous versions of VLC, but for me it doesn't happen when playing a video, only after taking a screen capture.
Is there any way to force VLC to use the same color profile for the capture as the one it uses for playing the video? Thanks in advance for your help!

Edit: here are screen captures.

With VLC screen capture:

With Windows screen capture (on VLC):

Yes, this is a known issue. (Not sure it is on the tracker)
