shorten video

All I want to do is to shorten a video. I start a video, press record button (red) to start recording, press button again to stop it. Now I want to see the clip I just recorded but I can't find it. It is not in any of the the video folders or picture folders and it is not in the folder for snapshot. I remember that the folder for storing clips can be specified by the user but I only found how to specify the folder for snapshots. What do I miss?
