VLC not playing AEC3 in surround sound

I have 6 shows now that are in this format which is dolby digital plus, which my onkyo txsr606 supports. Yet when playing the file the receiver picks up no surround sound and plays it in stereo. Please help, I have put watching these shows on hold hoping I would figure it out. but its been 6 months now and still nothing.

Reason I made this post even though there is a thread going for this same issue, is that after 13K that thread is dead. No one is being helped at all!! I got a snide comment saying well duh its not dts. so thats the extent of the knowledge on there, anyone capable please help, I will provide whatever logs or data you need to figure this out.
