Video and Audio both freeze but time keeps going

Hello fellow VLC users!

I have a problem with certain video files (all coming from the same source) that have the video and audio freeze but the timeline continues. Eventually audio and video come back and later freeze again.

The freezing always happens at the same moment in time.

It also happens with other media players.

Using the convert/save menu, the converted videos come to an end a few seconds after it would normally freeze.

What could I do to solve that problem?

P.S.: I have tried re-downloading the files just in case the videos would have been corrupted while downloading but it didn't help, same problem.

Hi, could you provide the logs ?

To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:

1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
2. Set Verbosity to 2
3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [​code]and[​/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)

Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

Providing the files would also probably help a lot.

I am having the same problem playing iPhone 4K videos with VLC (v. 3.0.4)

These play perfectly on iPhone and iPad. On 64-bit Win7 (16gb, fast i7):
- video freezes while audio continues
- video stutters while audio plays, updating images every 1/2 second
- when video plays, it often "ghosts" out like an inverted color scheme
- even if i reduce window to small size, same issues, so apparently a function of source video and VLC

Does it work without hardware acceleration ? You can disable it in the parameters or partially with --avcodec-hw none.
