VLC doesn't play older DVDs

Postby cdnkevin » 13 Oct 2018 01:39

I have a DVD of an old, loved movie from my childhood, The Secret of NIMH. I tried to play it in VLC and all I got was a green screen. Sometimes I would see pixelated images of the DVD menu (most of the screen would remain green but there would be segments of the menu that would show up). I do not hear any sounds; I can't remember if there are in this DVD menu for the title.

When I tried a newer DVD, A Bug's Life, it worked fine.

I'm not sure that the age of the DVD is a factor. Perhaps The Secret of NIMH DVD is corrupted (can that happen)? I don't have a way to test the DVD on another device (no other DVD player than my laptop. Is there a setting that I need to change to fix this?

Thank you for your assistance.
