snapshot distortion

trying to take a snapshot from a full res blu ray file - 3840 x 1600 resolution and the image comes out faded and washed out. wondering if is there some protection built into the file to prevent screen capping and if so if there's a way around it. trying to cap at full resolution without re-encoding the file at a lower res. any advice is much appreciated.
