Version 3.0 fails to play MKV linked segments

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Version 3.0 fails to play MKV linked segments

Postby drnick » 17 Feb 2018 02:59

I upgraded from version 2.2 to 3.0 and ran into a problem with linked MKVs not playing correctly. I have a couple of MKV files with the Next Segment ID set in their headers which worked just fine under previous versions of VLC. However under version 3.0 when a file gets to the end and tries to play the next segment, VLC just stops playing. The total duration (and progress slider) does show the correct duration (the sum of all linked files) so I know it's seeing and loading the linked files.

The "pre-load MKV files in the same directory" setting is enabled.

This is the log I get from the start of playing the first segment until it closes the video:

This is a known regression in VLC 3.0, which we intend to fix in a subsequent update: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/19101

Thanks for the reply Felix. I did try searching to see if this was reported already but didn't see that.
