Deleting or Permanently Removing Unneeded and Unused Audio Stream Links (MRLs) from VLC Media Player

Postby Stephen3099 » 05 Nov 2017 14:55

Hello all,

I have a problem I'm trying to solve that I'd like someone's help with.

I'm trying to delete a link to an online audio stream that I don't need because it does not play in VLC Media Player, but there does not appear to be any way to do this that I can find. It seems no one else ever needs to do this because searching the forums turns up nothing. I don't know if this is even the right forum page to post this and if there is already a post asking about this, I CAN'T FIND IT.

Can someone, anyone, help me figure out how to delete the unwanted link from VLC's list of stream links or am I SOL? Please respond soon. Thank you

PS: I would provide a screencap, but it appears that's not possible with your forums. That's not helpful at all. :(

If you're talking about the network streams box history then you need to edit vlc-qt-interface.ini file and in the [OpenDialog] section delete or edit the content of the "netMRL=" line.

Yes, Lotesdelere, that is exactly what I'm talking about. Your suggestion helped solve my problem, however some FYI is in order. I'm not a coder. I BARELY understand programming in any languages and having me go through the hidden system configuration file just to delete links I don't need is not a very ideal setup (the only reason I know where to look for the configuration file you listed is I've had issues with programs not behaving and have needed to access the "hidden" files to fix things). Your development team desperately NEEDS to make this easier to do WITHOUT making users hunt through the system files. There NEEDS to be an option in the network streams listing that lets the user selectively delete links they no longer need or find they cannot use in VLC Media Player. Why there is no option to delete network stream links and history from within the player settings is completely beyond me, and I'm finding it unacceptable that it's this way. I would strongly recommend that your developers take a good hard look at this one before releasing the next update. Other than that, VLC is just excellent. It is my default player for video files. My other player, Winamp, won't even touch the video portion of MP4 files I download from YouTube and other sources and Apple did away with QuickTime earlier this year. I recommend VLC Media Player to anyone who has the other players and can't play their videos on them. Thanks for your help. It was much needed! :-)

Then create a topic about that in the Features section of this forum:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewforum.php?f=7

Then create a new enhancement ticket on the VLC Trac with the link to your thread.

Then wait, and be patient

Windosw 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
VLC 3.0.11 x64

I select [Media > Open Network Stream] on the VLC menu bar and then select an entry from the "Please select a network URL" selection list. I can right-click and get a pull-down context menu and select Delete from that menu. The input area for "Please select a network URL" goes blank, but the entry is NOT deleted from the selection list. Please explain the purpose of Delete in the context menu.

This is the Windows context menu for any text, not a VLC context menu.

The suggested method of deleting old entries (dated Nov 05, 2017 11:46 pm) is definitely not user-friendly. Actually, I would call it user-hostile.
