Playing Videos In Background Has A Strange Result

Postby Wyxe » 02 Jun 2017 19:24

On Windows, I have VLC's video output set to OpenGL instead of auto, so I can play videos in the background. Whenever I tell it to play a video in the background, the player goes into fullscreen with no UI (making it impossible by normal means to close the program or stop the video) and it plays on top of everything else. I can't even alt tab, and I can't use player function shortcuts such as play/pause by pressing spacebar until I hit ctrl+alt+del and then back out of that menu, which keeps the video as the background but makes it so it is no longer on top - until I click on the video. Once I do, I can use shortcuts such as play/pause and use the volume slider but I can't close out of the background mode until I close the program.

On Linux, I have the video output set to auto

I wouldn't see this as an issue, as an error, if the program on Linux didn't work extremely well the first time. I put it in background view, and I was able to have all OS Functionality on top of the video, as though the video were actually the background. It wasn't a fullscreen video on top of the desktop, with no UI. However, something happened to the program and now it just began acting like my Windows version. This is the only thing that makes me believe that this "on top" fullscreen thing wasn't intentional.

I did change the audio effects in a way that would save them and open them how I want them anytime I open VLC, and the background thing was working properly before that, but that couldn't be the cause - could it? It never worked on Windows, audio effects or not. (By "never worked" I mean how it's acting above)
