Play HAP Codec

Postby tutiop » 28 Sep 2016 11:06

Hello,
I would like to play video medias with the HAP codec (*.mov). The codec is installed on my PC but VLC don't integrated it.
Is there a way to add this codec to VLC?
Thanks for your answer.
Romain.

VLC uses its own internal codecs.

But upload a short sample of a problematic file to either http://streams.videolan.org/upload/ or to Zippyshare.com (200 MB max) or to EmbedUpload.com, the latter will upload the file for you to several other hosts (use the default ones) and then post the link to the file here.

If needed cut it with DGsplit and read here about how to do it:

50 MB max should be enough.

And who knows, maybe it will be added to VLC some day :)

I'd like HAP support to! I uploaded an example of a HAP encoded file. It's a codec for VJs that gives efficient playback of high res video with less processing power required. See: https://github.com/Vidvox/hap-qt-codec
Thanks for considering it!

Hey - bumping this thread - I think adding support for the HAP codec would be an incredible thing to add to VLC. It is widely used in the live entertainment industry on a wide variety of apps and media players but doesn't have a lot of support outside of those. There is currently no native player of hap - it's easy to encode, but harder to get something to view the video and VLC would be great for this.

HAP is super fast for playback due to its GPU decoding and is also one of the only currently available video formats that can play files larger than 8K. It's also open source and cross platform.

Vidvox ( www.vidvox.net ), the creators, are super great people and I'm sure they would be willing to help out in any way they could.
