Help with audio settings

Hey Everyone!!
I use the VLC player on my windows 10 laptop to listen/watch audio and video files. I connect my laptop to my TV and use the TV's speakers for audio playback. Recently I started playing around with VLC's audio settings. I enabled the equalizer and compressor and started playing around with the frequency sliders. I don't have any knowledge when it comes to these audio settings so I don't know how to improve the sound. I was hoping someone here could tell me which settings are best when connecting my laptop to the TV via HDMI. Or maybe point me in the right direction. I'm using the version 2.2.4 if that helps.
