error with opening pls files

I have been streaming radiostations with the VLC player for years. Since a couple of days when I open de pls file in the player I get an error saying it could not open the MRL 'http://stream.... and check the log file for details.
As far as I know I haven't changed any settings on my laptop or in the VLC player. I use VLC 2.2.4 and my laptop has Windows 8.1. I live in the Netherlands and want to stream American radio.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem and how to solve it?

I have the same problem. No pls files will stream.
