external drive playlist

Postby palcov » 16 Sep 2016 11:03

I have external drive with music/videos.

- have all music from extrenal drive in library
- accidentially start some music from library when drive is not connected
- warning file not found pops up, skip to next song, etc -> endless loop -> freeze program -> ctr+alt+del

same scenario, drive connected, then accidentially gets disconnected (my extrenal HDD has very poor USB cabel)
- again, jump to next item in playlist, if no other -> endless loop -> crash.

so solution would be disable "jump to next item when file is not available" feature. or put in in options defaultly disabled.

sometimes my HDD gets accidentialy disconnected (for example when I move the cabel slightly), which causes mayhem in VLC player.

So what if the next file is available? We can't know unless we try, and not all users would want VLC to just stop at the first error - especially not in unattended use cases. In other words, it's not that simple a problem.

So far, nobody has proposed a reasonable patch, but you are most welcome to do so.
