loaded (not played) audio files do not display track numbers

Postby 1DoLittle » 07 Sep 2016 14:25

VLC v2.2.4 will not display track numbers of loaded files until the file has been played. The VLC application is group entertainment where the singer is using audio files to accompany the singing. Preparation includes organizing file order and assigning sequential track numbers to each file (done with tagscan-6.0.14). When a audio CD is loaded in VLC, the track numbers are initially displayed, but the number of files needed exceeds the capacity of a CD.

The only workaround I have found is during preparation, run each file a couple of seconds so the track number is displayed, then make a playlist. Loading this playlist, the display will have all the track numbers and when the order is changed, resorted by the track number.

Operating system is Windows 10 and windows 10 media player will not work (media player worked in XP).
Other than the initial failure to display track numbers, VLC works fine for this application.

I have not been able to find a fix. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Found the problem.
Go to Preferences (Ctrl+P) > highlight Show Settings All > click Playlist > check "Automatically preparse files"
