Hi, I've got an A55M chipset with an A10-5700 CPU and 16GB of RAM. I'm using my HDMI monitor with basic stereo speakers. Windows 7x64 is installed with VLC while Serviio and Windows Media Player serve video. I also have a smart Sony TV on my network, cabled in with cat 6 Ethernet.
I've recently happened across a collection of MKV files which I can't play using VLC on my Win7, but I can play on my TV via Serviio: I can see the video perfectly on both devices, but in VLC the audio hisses and pops despite my alterations to the Preferences. The filenames say that they are using HEVC video and 7.1 audio.
I've tried different output configurations and also remapped my channels but I've seen very little improvement.
I've also tried installing an earlier version which epically failed to decode the files.
The uploader of the files http://extratorrent.cc/profile/UTRplus/comments/ says that VLC has a known bug and that users should download an alternative player, which I'd rather not do.
I'd welcome any suggestions.
thanks!
