Customize Interface toolbar location issue

Postby JarieSuicune » 24 May 2015 08:56

I'm not sure if this is an OS-specific issue, but here it is.

I changed my interface layout to test something, then when I went to revert it, I noticed that the buttons had been moved to the bottom of the window. I never changed that setting (I keep the toolbar at the top at all times), and now I can't turn it on. I can make button changes, but it ignores that I set the Toolbar position to be above the video.
I do have the most recent update, 2.2.1.

Anyone have a fix (preferably not just reinstall, since I forget what settings I've changed...)?

This bug is still present and it's in the player itself.
I did a full uninstall, cleared all registry entries, tried multiple versions including 3.0.0 and yet the box "Above the video" still does zilch, nothing.
After retrieving the interface settings from an old install of VLC 2.1.1, I seem to have found the problem and have a fix for anyone finding this thread:
  1. Navigate to C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\vlc or simply press Win+R and enter %AppData%\Roaming\vlc to get there quickly.
  2. Open vlc-qt-interface.ini with a text editor of your choice.
  3. Change ToolbarPos=True to ToolbarPos=1.
  4. Save the file.
There you go, the toolbar is above the video again.
Now any change you'll make in interface settings will revert this value, so you'll have to change it to "1" again, after you've set everything else to your liking.
Hope this may be fixed now.

Thanks for posting the "fix," such as it is. I am having the same problem. I made a minor change to the interface and thereafter the bar would always go to the bottom. I was running an older version about two years old. i'd check the box numerous times, and it would still go to the bottom. i tried resetting my preferences, and finally uninstalled the program and installed the latest version, and i get the same thing. Any time i edit the toolbar it goes back to the bottom. The above fix helps, but I'm trying to get the toolbar back to the way I like it, and with every adjustment it puts the toolbar back on the bottom and I have to use the fix above. I'm now saving a backup ini file everytime I make a change. I'm running the most recent version on 64-bit Windows 7.
