controll-bar lost! spend hours searching..

Postby hizu » 12 Dec 2008 11:46

..for an option or a button to regenerate it but in the end the only thing to do was reinstalling.
does anyone know another way to do it? thx in advance

PS: i mean the controll bar that pops up in fullscreenmode, when you move the mouse - and also disappears after some seconds of inactivity. it's kinda important for understanding english series so i can stop and look up the dictionary ^^

also, to make this a valueable topic other ppl who face the same problem will be able to find, i'll insert the appropriate keywords " controll control bar menu bar lost disappeared regain option how to control bar gone "

The fullscreen controller, which is activated by default, can be enabled/disabled in the preferences by going to:
Tools >> Preferences... >> Interface

And ticking/unticking "Show a controller in fullscreen".

Right, well a resolution is just to delete preferences and cache files (use the forum search for how to), that is effectively the same as reinstalling with deleting the preferences and cache files (providing the installed files have not be modified).

also an option i have just managed to perform is to reset the position of the time slider bar in fullscreen mode
you perform this by opening
%root%:\documents and settings\(your windows username)\application data\vlc\vlc-qt-interface.ini

in this ini file wich is the basic log for fullscreen mode is also the coords of your time slider bar
if the timeslider bar has disapeared the coordinates in this ini shoudl exceed 400-1800
default position should be around

[FullScreen]
pos=@Point(0 0)

now the time slider bar is located on the top left of the fullscreen mode

i hope this helps it took me about 20 minuts to find out why mine had gone after i just dragged and dropped it on the bottom of the screen and could not get it back in sight

hope this helped.

@ vlc mods/creators
suggestion to input a limit on the dragging option so it cannot fall outside the clickable view of windows
and if put outside these limits to make an option in the basic interface to reset its position without having to go trough all this hassle

thanks in advance

I will work on that, if someone remembers to fill me a ticket.

OP: you're not the only one. :?

This was happening to me in v2.2.1 & I tried editing the .ini, etc, but nothing worked as my bar wasn't offscreen.

I finally discovered that clicking where it actually was (but was invisible) flashed my screen & brought it back. Clicking away from it, the screen flashed & the bar disappeared again.

As long as I know where it is, I can click it to make it appear but this is inconvenient. It would be much easier to just move the mouse to have it appear as it always did.

Press F11. It's the keyboard shortcut to menu View->Fullscreen Interface.

OK Folks - here we go!

I too like to use a smaller window to run multiple window apps for Livestream.

I lost the controls and menus immediately on startup this morning - but found out why:

If you like a small window with no controls then losing the control/menu bars is no big deal as long as you right click in the video window and select the proper command.

But I am a GUI guy - I love controls and menus. SO -

Right click in the video area
Select Tools
Select Preferences
UNTICK THE BOX THAT SAYS "START IN MINIMAL VIEW MODE".

You can still force size the player window down - but you have to accommodate the control/menu bars in size reduction.

Otherwise - problem solved - Cheers

On mine i can see the tool bar its just the Red X shutdown and the minimise and maximise icons have vanished.

i am thinking it may be a screen resolution issue.
