Grab video from HI8 camera

Postby gimbe » 29 Jan 2016 15:44

Hello everyone,

I bought an EasyCap USB in order to connect my hi8 camera (https://docs.sony.com/release/ccdtrv65.pdf) to my computer.
I want to digitalize the old hi8 tapes that I have.

I can read the tapes fine within the camera, but when I try to see them within VLC (version 2.2.1), I only get a black screen.
I see the device appearing on the "capture device" tab as "OEM Device", but when I select it, I get a black screen and nothing else.

I have tried 2 different RCA cables (one new), and also a S-Video cable.
I also tried on different computers and different OS (Windows/Debian) but nothing helps.
I also tried VLC version 2.0.0.

Here is the output that I get in the Messages window with verbosity 2:

In Windows, once you select a direct-show capture device, there is a settings button (near the video device selection) that you may need to click and set some capture device options. I'm not at a Windows PC right now so I'm not exactly sure what the text on the button is but you should try doing that before clicking open/play.

Yes, I have tried changing some options, such as setting PAL (the standard of my camera seems to be PAL, according to my paper manual, and to what's written on the camera).
But that didn't help :(

I can try things on the Debian version as well
