Possible: Specific video file playback to trigger other events?

Is there any way to make the start of a specific video file to trigger other events, such as to open a file or emulate a pressed keyboard shortcut? I know how to trigger events by whether some specific program is running or not, but it isn't enough, I'd want different videos to trigger different events.

In case that I need additional software, I'm on a Mac.
