random FLAC files not playing in playlist, but do play independently

I was trying to play an m3u playlist, consisting of both mp3 and FLAC files.

VLC balked at playing a couple (out of 10) of the FLAC files while it was playing the playlist; VLC would then skip ahead to the next song.

However. when VLC went to play the the two non-performing FLAC files independent from the playlist, they played just fine.

The error messages referred me to the log, which I couldn't find. Help appreciated.

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "C:\wire\MP3s\Obscura-Dylani\05 Ballad of Frankie Lee and Judas Priest.flac" (Bad file descriptor).
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///C:/wire/MP3s/Obscura-Dylani/05%20Ballad%20of%20Frankie%20Lee%20and%20Judas%20Priest.flac'. Check the log for details.
