Podcasts issue: Pause/Resume causes jump to next in playlist

Postby nonvocatus » 24 Apr 2014 12:22

2.1.3 Ricewind, Windows 7 but the same issue has been reported over in the Linux forums so I'm guessing it's not platform-specific.

Pause a podcast briefly, unpause, you get about one second of resumed audio and then it jumps to next in playlist.

Here is the dump from Messages, Verbosity: 2 (debug)

Code: Select all

It goes on but I don't think the rest is relevant.

Here is what Alpha90 wrote over in Linux:
Hi all

I am running VLC media player 2.1.3 Rincewind and I am running into a problem when I stream podcasts pause for a nontrivial amount of time (for example the length of time it takes to write or read this post) and then resume playback the stream plays for a bit then jumps to the next stream in the playlist. I have double checked my system settings and they checkout and when I used vlc to play audio files or video files stored locally I do not have a problem. Doing some research online i found an older thread talking about a problem similar to mine with podcast streams however the thread did not have a conclusive answer so I am posting now it hopes someone might know this problem and know how to fix it.

System specs:
Arch linux
Kernel 3.12.9
Alsa 1.0.27
PulseAudio 4.0-6
VLC 2.1.3
I'm trying a few tweaks, will edit if I have any luck.

Can you share a podcast URL?

http://www.soundonsight.org/radio/this- ... sign/feed/ is the URL for the example above. It happens with all different podcasts though. Increasing network caching made it play a lot longer after resuming, but only cause it plays the cached stuff. It's still deciding it's End of Stream soon after Resume then waiting decoder fifos to empty before jumping to the next stream.

I reset to default settings and made a better Messages dump

You can't resume a stream after hitting pause a bug I think

You can, of course.
