Playlist not saving songs in non-English languages

I've been having this issue for a while where I would add songs to a playlist and save it, but when opening the playlist later some songs would be missing. I tracked down the problem in my specific instance, at least; anything using Japanese characters in the meta tags simply wasn't saving, forcing me to either remove or alter the meta tag information to remove the offending characters. Is there a functionality I'm missing that could prevent this? Files themselves can have Japanese characters, it's only the meta tags that seem to be causing this.
