controlling VLC through a script

Postby Sandeep Malhotra » 26 Oct 2005 03:50

I am trying to control VLC through an expect script (as part of integrating VLC into my application). So, from expect I am able to execute "vlc --intf=rc" and send VLC commands. I can add items to the playlist using the "add" command and a VLC vidoe window pops up. However, after the first "add" command, I am not able to send any more VLC commands.

I think this is because the VLC video window that pops up becomes the active window and so my commands are actually going to the video window - which doesn't do anything.

Any suggestions as to why the commands are not making to the remote interface process. Or, if my thinking is correct with the VLC vidoeo window becoming active, is there a way to make it "inactive".
